HISTORY OF HIS WORD BROADCASTING COMPANY
His Word Broadcasting Company is an Oregon nonprofit corporation. It incorporated on October 6, 1989. The original incorporators and the initial Board members were John H. Horn, Dennis Walen, and StanleyT. Merrell. It's stated purpose was to operate exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, literary or educational purposes, within the meaning of Section 501(c )(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. It then qualified as a 501 (c ) (3) nonprofit corporation. Contributions to His Word Broadcasting Company are tax deductible. His Word Broadcasting Company took over and continued the broadcasting of the Christian programs being broadcast on over the air TV channel 59 by Support Christian Broadcasting. In 1989 His Word Broadcasting entered into an agreement with Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) to rebroadcast the network programs of Trinity Broadcasting Network in the Eugene, Springfield, and Southern Willamette Valley area. This TV coverage was later extended to cover the Cottage Grove area with a transmitter at Cottage Grove. The TBN program schedule for the station (KHWB) is published in the News Review in both the daily and weekly TV program schedules.
Following the death of Stanley T. Merrell, Charles Marshall and Dan Holt joined the Board of Directors. After the Death of Dennis Walen, in 2009, John Horn, Charles Marshall and Dan Holt continued to make up the Board of Directors. TBN discontinued its financial support of the Eugene station of His Word Broadcasting in 2009, and discontinued its financial support of the Cottage Grove station in 2010. However, His Word Broadcasting continued to rebroadcast the TBN programs on channel 59, relying on local support from the viewers in the local TV coverage area. Channel 59 was an analog channel. In 2009 His Word Broadcasting obtained approval from the FCC to broadcast on digital channel 38, and purchased a new digital transmitter. His Word Broadcasting Company currently broadcasts NRB Network programs and some local Christian programs on 38.1. In 2010, His Word Broadcasting Company added a second channel, 38.2. and currently broadcasts Cornerstone Network programs on channel 38.2.
In 2011, Dan Blomberg, Executive Director of Jubilee Ministries, and Chaplain at the Lane County Jail, joined the Board of Directors. In December, 2011, Aaron Taylor, Pastor of Crossfire World Outreach Ministries joined the Board of Directors. In 2014 Chuck Giddens replaced Aaron Taylor on the Board.
Most people in the Eugene/Springfield area can receive the channel 38.1 and 38.2 programs over the air, with only a small indoor UHF antenna. However, if there is any obstruction, such as a large building, a hill, or dense tree growth blocking our TV signal, you may need an outside antenna to get a picture. Our TV signal is broadcast from the tall tower on the mountain North of Springfield. People can receive our TV signal, along with all of the other local stations (more than 15 channels), from as far North as Corvallis, with an outside antenna. See our instructions on how to receive FREE over the air television, and how to contact us for help. His Word Broadcasting Company is a local nonprofit corporation. It receives no taxpayer support, and sells no advertising, but relies on private donations from viewers to pay expenses of operation. Our address is : His Word Broadcasting Company, PO Box 71927, Eugene, OR 97475.
